Showered with Good Fortune

Natalie & Adam Carlson

On July 1, 2009, in Trafalgar Square in London, England, two transplanted Canadians met, and both of their lives were changed forever. Natalie McFarlane and Adam Carlson were living in London, having relocated for job opportunities. Dressed in red, both joined the festivities in the famed square that day. In amongst the thousands of others, Natalie and Adam met by chance and sparks flew. Two days later, Adam took Natalie on their first date. Three dates later, as they lay on the grass in Hyde Park, talking and laughing, Adam knew that Natalie was the one. He affirmed his decision with a message he scrawled on an old envelope on returning home from the park: “I will marry Natalie”—and dated it “August 23, 2009.”

Nea & Nathan Moore

“Well she ain’t into cars or pickup trucks, but if it runs like a Deere, man her eyes light up,” are the first words Nea Wadson heard from Nathan Moore’s mouth when she watched him perform a rousing rendition of “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy” by Kenny Chesney back in 2007.

As most Bermudians do, both Nea and Nathan already knew each other through mutual friends but had never met officially until that night in the karaoke bar. Watching Nathan perform with such gumption, Nea couldn’t help but be smitten instantly with his zest for life. (more…)

Olya was at the same bar with her girlfriends, drinking champagne and dancing. “At one point, while we were dancing, I felt someone’s eyes on me,” tells Olya. “I thought, ‘What a handsome Russian man.’” (more…)

Marissa & Ramon Brangman

Marissa Wainwright and Ramon Brangman had many opportunities to get to know one another throughout their lives. They attended the same primary school, were enrolled in the same after-school programme and lived only a few doors down from one another as children. As adults they continued to find themselves in the same situations, attending the same church and church functions. So isn’t it ironic that two people who always lived so closely together were never introduced formally? That all changed the day Ramon spotted Marissa on her way to work and called out to her. Although Marissa was surprised by Ramon’s gumption, she wasn’t surprised that the two had finally reached a meeting point. To Marissa, it was destiny : “It’s almost like I always felt that our paths would eventually cross.”
