Emma Harrison and Joe Barbosa had known each other through various running groups on the island, but on one particular day, when the two got into a conversation, the sparks began to fly. Their first date was in May of 2014 at The Reefs, unaware at the time that they would be back in just over a year to tie the knot.
The happy couple travelled to the Bahamas for Emma’s birthday in March of 2015. On their last night of vacation, after a scrumptious buffet dinner, Joe suggested they have one last stroll on the beach. Emma, feeling a tad full, resisted, but eventually gave in after some determined persuading on Joe’s part. That evening, while they walked the beach hand in hand, Joe got down on one knee and popped the question. Emma, completely shocked, said yes!
The pair’s said their “I dos” in front of friends and family, many of whom had flown down from the UK, on Caso’s Point at The Reefs. Emma remembers one of her favorite moments of the day, walking down the aisle with her father and seeing the man she loved waiting for her with a huge smile on his face. The group moved to Coconuts for the wedding reception, which was the perfect back drop for Emma and Joe’s ocean blue theme. The pair had chosen to do the speeches and champagne toasts at the beginning of the reception so everyone could relax and enjoy the dinner afterwards. The night included a delicious meal, a very popular photo booth, and a romantic first dance between the newly weds, Mr. and Mrs. Barbosa.
Emma’s tip for future brides is to enjoy each other’s company during the lead up to the wedding because the planning can become so consuming if you let it! And of course, enjoy every second of your special day, “it goes by in a flash.”
