I grew up in Bermuda, and Derek and I were married on October 15, 2017, which proved to be a particularly memorable weekend as it was only two days after Hurricane Nicole directly hit the island! As we rode out the hurricane we had no idea what the extent of the damage would be, if the wedding would even happen, or if our guests would be able to arrive. In true resilient Bermudian form, everyone involved in the wedding did everything they possibly could to ensure we still had the special day we had envisioned. It was truly amazing how everyone from our wedding planner to the florist, caterers (Buzz for a cocktail party and Beau Rivage for the rehearsal dinner) Mid Ocean staff, the Reverend at the Unfinished Church, cake baker, local hotels (and many more) took it all in stride to pull off the day without a hitch. The weather was absolutely perfect on the day, and the island looked incredible; you couldn’t even tell there had been a hurricane, and, most importantly, everyone was ready to party! It was an amazing day we will certainly never forget, and I don’t think anywhere but Bermuda could have pulled it off so seamlessly.
